Profile:
William Manor was relatively late in starting his motor racing career. Whilst most aspiring drivers have tasted karting success as young as 5 years old, William's family did not have the finances required to get William racing. Instead the lust for motor racing with the Manor family was saturated by watching races, normally on TV but occasionally in the stands as well. The school initiative introduced by Team Pezzarinho therefore spurred Williams career into life when he was 7 years old. As well as immediately lapping within a second of the local kart circuits record, William showed he was able to consistently lap strongly and ended up winning his regional final by over an entire lap. He was immediately taken into the Team Pezzarinho program and entered into numerous karting championships.
Williams career nearly ended prematurely however after a serious crash at 12 years old. Having spent a number of years racing go karts, he was invited to test and give feedback to a Formula Student team. Although an investigation later found that a suspension component had passed it's expected expiry date, a crash during the wet testing day greatly affected William's confidence when the weather begins to turn. His racing was put on hold for 6 months whilst he sought help from sports psychologists on the issue, and would later return to the circuit in the same Formula Student car in an attempt to understand and move on from the troubling incident.
William has always been focused on reaching Formula 1, but the team believe that with his career starting late and the vast talent pool hoping to reach the limited available seats at the top, that a shift to Sports Cars would see him reach higher goals. Although he had a decent debut in car racing during his opening Formula 4 championship challenge, his main rivals were younger than his 16 years and it was clear William had not completely closed the experience gap to those drivers able to go racing from the age of 5.
The story was different in sportscar racing, however. With both the exceptional support of Team Pezzarinho, as well as his affinity for consistent and clean laps he would be awarded handsomely with many podiums and even several championships. Perhaps it was a matter of discipline rather than age that was holding him back, and even with the recent departure of his beloved sportscar team, he hopes to further strengthen his driving in the any type of racing if it means getting to the top of the ladder
RP Notes:
- Started career with the intention of racing single seaters, but shifted focus to Sports Cars.
- An accident early in his career in a wet race has left his confidence during wet weather needing training.
- Though no history of racing existed in the Manor family before William, they have always been keen racing fans.
- William was one of the first drivers to benefit from the Team Pezzarinho schooling initiative, having been touted as a potential future star aged 7.
