Summary:
Older brother to engineer-in-training Ginette Martel, Richard-Jacques' story of how he got into motorsport is very similar to that of some other drivers that have grown up in the Sarthe region. He fell in love with the 90's GT Endurance PRO cars growing up, and made it his dream to become a professional Endurance driver one day. Alas, at first, things were not to be; while his kart racing career was reasonably successful, his family and sponsors could not quite support him moving up into formula cars, and thus, he went to an engineering university to hopefully become a race engineer instead in 2006.
That same year was the year RJ became addicted to listening to Clara Crescendo remixes on video streaming sites; it left such a strong impression on RJ's sister Ginette, that years later, she would become a bit of a Clara fan girl herself. During those years studying, RJ participated in a number of European Formula Student seasons, where he managed to set off a three year win streak, unheard of in the sport or for the university in question. His rivals dubbed the team "The Aqua Sirens", as a take-that at RJ and his team's tendencies to always be blasting Clara's remixes in their corner of the paddock. As a big fat middle finger to his rivals, for RJ's final season in Euro Formula Student, he donned racing overalls in the Clara colors and designs, and he managed to perfectly sweep every single test, an achievement which has never been equaled since then.
Becoming a race engineer for Moriya Speed Shrine in the 2013 J-Speed Association GT Masters season, he guided the team's purple GT-R to a hard-fought victory in the Tsukihime 1000 km, which clawed back a staggering 6 places in the championship. During this time, RJ also managed to fight his way back up the Endurance ladder as a driver, nabbing key wins in the J-Speed Supreme Taikyu league. He left the Moriya team in 2016 to focus on searching for a drive - and thus far nothing has popped up for him. Though he may be a bit of a late starter thanks to that 'little' dabble into engineering and university, RJ reckons his technical knowledge paired with his driving ability could be his victory card.
Roleplaying Notes:
- Huge anime nerd, especially loves the cutesy slice of life ones.
- Has gotten so good at covering Clara songs in both her native language (Japanese) and RJ's own (French) that RJ can occasionally be difficult to distinguish from the 'real' Clara.
- Always carries around a Clara Crescendo plush doll around in the paddock.
