Summary:
Hailing from a family of athletics nuts, Raul Leon had one passion in his life: football (as in soccer, for you Americans reading this profile). This competitive fire was kindled at a very young age; as the youngest of four brothers, Raul did not want to be seen by his brothers as 'the load'. Even at a tiny little age of six, Raul would invest hours of his time learning various moves, sometimes even sneaking out of his house when everyone else was sleeping to get in a few more shots, perhaps some drills, it was all in his goal to get better.
Then, on his seventh birthday, several of his extended family members rented out a small kart racing facility. He discovered how crazy fun it was to go running amok around the twisty corners of the track... even if he somehow managed to spin a power-restricted rental kart. It was enough for him to become interested in some real racing, though. After a lot of talks between his parents and a few of his aunts and uncles, they all decided to get him started on a kart racing career.
Though he faced a huge uphill battle, Raul's non-stop determination got him locked onto a fast track to surprising successes. He managed to snag several race wins in his age class at his local circuit, and the trend would continue as he grew older. Raul juggled his time between school, football, and karting throughout his early teenage years, but at age 15, he decided the ball game just wasn't him. "Being a racer is where I feel I can really stand out as an athlete, and as a person", Raul stated in a local newspaper interview. This was a move that greatly shocked everyone in his family, as Raul had been giving it literally his 110% in both football and racing, and the Leons were a family well-known in the local sports scene.
Since then, Raul has been involved in a number of Spanish Touring Car leagues with varying success on a number of teams; despite having two championships under his name, he's also experienced what it's like to be at the back of the pack. Raul is coming off of what is his worst season of Touring Car racing yet; a long string of getting taken out by other drivers, mechanical failures, and poor tactical decisions from his team's directors resulted in him scoring absolutely zero points. It was a season that stood out for all of the wrong reasons.
Even with his massively competitive personality, nothing seems to dissuade him from going forward with whatever his heart desires. Raul has seen it all; the sweet nectar of a championship win, and the crushing agony of repeated defeats. For him, it's not particularly just winning that matters; he wants his wins to be satisfying, a showcase of what he can do.
Roleplaying Notes:
- Raul has elements of a show-off, but he isn't here exclusively to showboat.
- Dominating wins don't feel particularly satisfying to him if he doesn't feel like he earned it.
- It's okay if Raul's teammates are weak - there's a big difference between being weak and being cowardly in his eyes. To him, someone weak trying to take on the strong is admirable... if perhaps a little foolish. He'll still applaud them for trying, though.
