Summary:
Katsuo Matsushita has a relatively normal and tame name, and aside from the very liberal application of various types of metal on his musical tastes, a very normal and average childhood. But you wouldn't get that impression from someone who used to compete at professional drifting competitions while hanging half of his body out and letting out an ear-searing hybrid of a banshee-like screech and a guttural beastly roar in the middle of a slide. Normally, such a stunt would be met with an instant disqualification from the competition, and for Katsuo, he would not be treated any differently.
Formerly a racer who had one half of his racing life in the not-quite-legal "touge" scene and the other half trying its damnedest to impress the judges at numerous semi-pro drifting competitions, Katsuo was good... but not a standout by any means. Sure, he was good enough to be competing at the top level of his discipline, but both on and off the track he seemed ridiculously normal. Katsuo needed something to truly make him stand out... and then he spent an entire week drowning his ears in the savage metal and drum-and-bass albums he could get his hands on.
During his week of musical immersion, Katsuo "brutalized" his drift car, smashing its panels with a hammer, lobbing bricks at it, and scraping his car keys all over; somehow these "modifications" got through tech inspection at the drift tournament later that week. Proudly showing his car's "scars", Katsuo was not satisfied. During a tandem run, he decided to pull a move no sane anybody would ever perform. Throwing his car into a massive slide, Katsuo loosened his restraints and double-flipped off the corner marshal before spinning out into the outside wall, ripping off his car's rear bumper and shattering the right tail light.
For his act of sheer insane jackassery, Katsuo was thrown out of the competition on the spot, but not before the crowd roared in absolute approval of his stunt. This is the kind of lifestyle Katsuo craves; when he's not throwing out ridiculous amounts of memorabilia to his fans, he's showcasing his brand of absolute insanity. Despite calming down considerably since that fateful day, Katsuo has set his sights on the Global Racing League to show off what he can do when his borderline-psychotic mindset focuses on more serious endeavors.
Roleplaying Notes:
- Katsuo has almost no sense of self-preservation on the track. While he's not TRYING to get himself killed, he tends to do a lot of rather dangerous stunts just because he believes he can.
- HAS. NO. SENSE. OF. INDOOR VOICE. At least at the track. Even in interviews, Katsuo almost always seems like he's one stupid question away from just howling at reporters.
- Despite being incredibly well-known in the drifting community for being an absolute psycho, local citizens in his hometown don't seem to recognize Katsuo's infamy. This is because whenever he's at home or just running menial errands around town, he quiets down significantly.
