"So once again guys, thanks again for such a stellar IMAS debut!"
Evan stood near his desk in his office, with Didier and Jason on the opposite end of the room wearing expressions that showed a mix of intrigue, boredom, and slight annoyance.
"Thanks Evan, but you've said that to us pretty much daily ever since the season ended" Jason replied in the normal tone he'd become so accustomed to using when talking to his eccentric boss. "Plus I swear it feels like you're patting yourself on the back whenever you say it" he snidely adds.
"I'm imagining that there's more to this impromptu meeting than just another congratulations, right" Didier questions, "Office calls from you are pretty rare."
"That's right Didier! It's time for us to discuss our plans for the upcoming season." Evan says, clearly giddy about something but not quite letting on what it is yet.
"This have anything to do with that 'little surprise' you posted about on Tripwire a few days back?" Jason asks, "When I questioned you on it earlier you wouldn't mention a thing."
"Well Jason, that is the point of a surprise, and it just so happens that this surprise is ready to been unveiled, if you'll follow me gentlemen."
Evan leads the two out of his office, and into the hallways of the J-RA headquarters. The trio make their way past the workshops where the team's Mustangs are undergoing their end-of-season teardowns, and into the main lobby where the original Ford GT Evan fielded for Jason sits on display for visitors to see. Making their way to the parking lot Didier and Jason are met with a gooseneck trailer being pulled by an early 2000's Super Duty parked right in front of the building.
Instantly Jason's mind starts racing, they've utterly dominated GTE AM in IMAS last season, so obviously in that trailer should be a brand spanking new Ford GT GTP along with a Ford exec there to hand them a factory contract. Didier noticed Jason grinning like a dumbass and then turned his attention to the man standing by the trailer, none other than Evan's club racing buddy Ricky Álvarez.
"Ay Ricky, it's been a brick" he walks over and daps up his friend, "how've you been since Daytona?"
"Well I was relaxing until you dragged me into this crazy scheme you've got cooked up, mi amigo" Ricky chuckles to Evan.
With Jason still daydreaming, Didier decides to press the question, "So what exactly is this 'crazy scheme' you've got, Evan?"
"I think it's time to show you, ready Ricky?"
The two men walk to the back of the trailer with Didier and Jason following suit. Ricky hits the controls on the trailer and the rear ramp begins the fold down slowly revealing the trailer's contents for the two drivers to see.
"So what do ya think" Evans gestures to his employees.
"I-er, ummmm" Jason starts to say trying to process what he's looking at.
In the rear of the trailer sat a crisscrossing web of steel tubes, still in a bare metal state.
Jason finally finds his words "This your new club racer or something Evan? Looks pretty wicked but I don't know why we had to see it?"
Didier chimes in, "Looks like an OmniRacer chassis, you launching a MSAA effort for next year?"
Evan shakes his head and grins. "No my fine gentlemen, this right here is J-RA's GTE PRO effort for 2022!"
Jason let out a gasp, his guess ended up being half-correct after all, but the half he got wrong is what had him in utter confusion."
"This children's climbing frame is what we'll be driving next year? I'll be surprised if we beat the AMs in this thing."
Didier tries to calm Jason down "Now, Jason a tube-frame car is a perfectly valid way to build a race car", but still holding his own reservations, "but I don't think I've seen a PRO effort based on one since I was driving back in the 2000s, will this thing even be legal?"
"Well take it from the man who built it, Evan combed over the rules back and forth and found us a homologation that would allow him to carry out his plan for this year." Ricky assured the two.
"I've been around the the club racing scene for years now, and it's become apparent to me that many people miss the days where any club team could rock up to a race in IMAS, show off their stuff. and have a little fun in the process, they say they've been priced out from the series." Evan says, going into full used car salesman mode, "Well being priced out isn't an issue for me, so I took it upon myself to hatch up a plan, we allow them to use their old school know-how, and combine that with our team's top-of-the-line testing and preparation, and voila, we got ourselves a car that's sure to put those big brands on notice."
Jason crosses his arms "So basically you're saying we've been swept up in another certified-Evan Jameson passion project haven't we?"
"Yep, and this'll be your 6th year of being swept up in another certified-Evan Jameson passion project", Evan cheekily shoots back.
"Bloody 'ell, guess I can't argue that one can I?" Jason shrugs.
Didier once again asks the reasonable question. "So you've already told Tanner, Thorsten, and the rest of the crew about your plan, right?"
"Well I told them to get ready to learn a new car."
"This is gonna be a long couple of months, isn't it?"
