Growing up in Lake Tahoe, Ren Yoshizawa grew up in an area of influence. The area is well known for its influence, it’s heavy focus on tourism, and the beautiful views of the Sierra Nevada mountains. He grew up on the Nevada side of the city, where legal gambling and other shady practices went hand in hand with the tourism. He flourished well in school and got a handful of awards and merits from various school clubs and national organizations. Taking an auto mechanics class early on in high school, Ren discovered one of his biggest passions.
Growing up in an age where there were a handful of video and media outlets that covered the culture of street racing in Japan (Option Heart, Waifuhunters, and 765 Video to name a few). He watched the video specials, read the magazines, and even went to far as to make little scale models of some of the more famous cars that were influential to the street racing scene at the time. When Ren got his first vehicle, a late 90’s Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck, he worked extremely hard to get it converted into an off-road monster that could tackle local hill climb events and impromptu challenges out on the open road. The good times would not last, however, as he left America due to unknown circumstances (rumors say he left because of a death in the family).
Upon moving to Japan, Ren began to work his way up the street racing scene in the Bay Area of Tokyo (the capital of Japan). The road to the top was long and tedious, being called various names in the book by the locals who had a stigma against “Gajins”. This hatred and various other emotions went directly into his vehicle of choice at the time: A late 2000’s model Honda NSX (NA2) that started out as a wreck in a junkyard about 50 miles southwest of Tokyo. As time progressed, the car slowly started taking shape. The distorted shape was restored back to perfect condition, the rust and scratches were primed and eventually painted in a color similar to the Spa Yellow Pearl option offered by the manufacturer, the car began sporting various rare and high-performance parts, and eventually, the car sported a full body kit that was done by one of the tuner village shops based out of Osaka: Tsuchigami no Kyojin.
With a machine tuned to perfection under his belt, Ren took to the C1 Loop in Tokyo to begin honing his skills. Using the same emotions he had put into his car of choice, Ren became a driver with insane amounts of talent. Night after night it was the same: high-speed showdowns at over 100 miles an hour on the loop line and 9 times out of 10, he would win without much trouble. The yellow NSX eventually began building a notorious reputation in the street racing community, and in various street racing documentaries (including some that were shot by current sponsors in GRL), Ren would purposefully drive dangerously close by some of the people who were out filming to make sure his car would be known across the automotive world. He eventually expanded onto the touge racing community and gained a similar reputation there.
Now, after becoming a success in Japan’s underground street racing scene, Ren is looking to make a permanent and noticeable mark in the GRL. Taking all of his experience he’s learned from Season 1 and his street racing career (which he still actively participates in today), he uses this experience to his advantage. He’s collected various merchandise from the teams that participated in the 1996 J-Speed Association GT Masters as well as items from Tsuchigami no Kyojin and he actually has a few collectibles in his personal vehicle and in his Battle of Kaido car. His ultimate goal is to take his team and himself to the top of the J-Speed Association, and eventually earn a spot in J-Speed’s GT Endurance PRO category alongside those who inspired him as he was growing up.
Roleplay Notes:
-Despite his troubles growing up, Ren comes off as a calm, friendly, and caring, individual. He usually tries to conduct himself in a respectful manner.
-Some of Ren’s favorite teams include; Honda Team Red Xevious, Tsuchigami no Kyojin, Team Yoshimitsu, and Hoshi Racing Sports to name a few.
-He likes to talk about his merchandise collection, and will sometimes wear apparel from the teams he follows.
-He is a major fan of articles written up by Dino Calle-Carrara and is currently helping him restore a 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) that is running on his team.
-He currently lives in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan but is considering moving to Yokohama at the end of this season. He parks his cars used in GRL next to the vehicles that brought him to glory in the garage.
-Outside of GRL, Ren runs a high-end premium car dealership and car tuner. It’s based in the same city he wants to move Dragoon Racing Project to, Yokohama.
-He travels to other major cities in Japan every once in awhile to see the local talent. Cities include Osaka, Nagoya, Yokohama, and Hiroshima to name a few.
-The brands that Dragoon Racing Project is under sponsorship were hand picked by Ren because he wanted to stick with brands he had personally purchased from
while he was growing up.

Born in Leipzig, Germany, Karlie Engel was born into a family that had significant ties to the automotive industry. Her father, Hans Engel, was a test driver for various vehicles and her mother, Anna Engel, worked at Customer Center in the same city. The family enjoyed the perks of being a Porsche family: a nice house in an upscale district of the city, family outings to various racing events in Europe, and a solid salary were just a few perks of the job. Hans would even bring his daughter to work, and on some days Karlie got to ride alongside her father in prestigious vehicles, such as the Porsche 911 GT3 (996), the Porsche 911 GT2 (996), and the Boxster to name a few. When Karlie was just shy of turning six years of age, Anna was taken away from the family due to a critical car accident that happened during a business trip to Stuttgart. The surviving members of the accident, Hans, and Karlie were affected by the sudden loss of the mother figure of the family but were able to recover.
One night while driving home from a clarinet recital that took place in Stuttgart, something happened that night that would shape Karlie’s interest in vehicles. About halfway home, a street race was going on between two vehicles on the expressway. One was a slightly modified Mercedes-Benz SL500 in a glossy looking black, but the other vehicle was a bright yellow Lamborghini Diablo SV. The Diablo was chasing after the SL500 and made a risky pass that flew right by the side of the vehicle Karlie was sitting on. This incident stuck with her, as after this she began collecting Lamborghini merchandise alongside her Porsche merchandise. She even had a poster of an SV similar to the one she saw that night hanging in her room, next to a picture she had of Anna.
Shortly after Karlie graduated from High School she began work in a corporation that specializes in private investigations, she eventually became used to her job and became one of the corporation's contacts in Germany. One of the perks of the job was a significant salary, that paid special bonuses for each completed contract. Slowly but surely, she began to climb the ladder and started to gain wealth and influence. Work, however, was to take her far away from home. Her job needed her to move to a country that could be considered a stark contrast compared to life in Germany; Japan.
Beside herself, Karlie was part of a unit that had two other people: Minori Maruguchi (a person she was already familiar with, as the school Karlie went to back in Leipzig had a foreign exchange student program that Minori was a part of), and Ayako Natsuki. Together, these three became a special unit that dealt with certain individuals and certain sectors of the underground in Tokyo. Among one of the targets was, at the time, a newbie to the expressway scene in Tokyo: Ren Yoshizawa.
This would eventually lead to a handful of showdowns between Karlie’s unit and the lone expressway racer. Things would get hairy in a few cases, as dangerous encounters with Tokyo traffic and other racers almost resulted in very heavy crashes that could have easily taken out any one of them. This peaked when Karlie (now owning an Aventador with heavy modification it) took on Ren during a one on one grudge match that started on the Route 3 line in Shibuya, rounded it’s way around the southern section of the C1 Loop Line, turned south onto the New Belt Line Route (or the Shinkanjyo as some racers call it), then finally ended at the Parking Area in Takumi (off the Wangan B exit that takes racers back up to the Mukojima line). The battle gained significant media attention from various outlets, and as one reporter put it: “The battle on the expressways that took place tonight is something special. A high-speed grudge match that has never been seen before, and may probably never be seen again.” Now, Karlie seems to be dating the person she was assigned to keep tabs on, as she and Ren recently became an item.

Summary:
An artist and a petrolhead simultaneously at heart, Dino grew up during the height of rallying in the late 80's and early 90's. His father took him to numerous rally and rallycross events in the country, always traveling for that perfect shot. This inspired him to take on motorsport photography himself, but yearning for more exotic locales, he moved out to Japan after his 21st birthday. Initially covering J-Speed Taikyu and GT Masters, he soon caught notice of the drifting and tuner craze that was taking Japan by storm.
Despite covering numerous events at the professional level, Dino himself has never competed much outside of autocross and club-level Tuner events. While he loves his R34 GT-R just as much as any proud owner should, he decided that he'd be better off paying for a seat on an upcoming GRL team rather than risk his waifu-car getting wrecked. Can anyone blame him, though?
RP Notes:
- Thinks Akiha Nakai is a great tuner, but isn't a fan of her hoarding the numerous pink slips she's won as prizes.
- Absolutely loves his R34 GT-R, but never wants to turn a lap in true anger with it; many of his car's parts are rare, limited-production pieces.
- Ironically, he prefers seeing priceless historic race cars being raced in historic events, turning laps in all kinds of anger by rich gentlemen, rather than seeing them rot in museums.

The Southern Belle of racing engineering, or at least, that's how she likes to see herself as. Cynthia tries so hard to be like from an Old West show, but hearing her try to emulate a Southern accent is painful to many.
